"Kudos to staff of ward C3"

About: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital

Anything else?

Based on my own experience of medical treatment elsewhere in the UK in recent years, I have a low opinion of doctors and nurses generally. But when my 84 year-old father was admitted as an emergency with a blocked bowel on 15/5/13 I was straightforwardly impressed by the care he received from all the staff (barring the one nurse who botched a blood taking and left him horribly bruised after blaming him for having no veins) under very challenging circumstances. Communication with patient and the family were exactly as I would have wished. Particular mentions in dispatches should go to a member of staff, who did a great deal to lift my dad's spirits; also another member - sorry about your shoes, but your care for his dignity was exemplary; and the 'fresh-faced young nurse' (dad's description) who cared for him wonderfully. My particular thanks go to the Registrar for speaking to me like an intelligent adult and the consultant for his quick action and sensitive handling. So, where I would have expected to be writing a strongly-worded critique, it is only fair to accurately record how impressed I was by the whole experience. I can only hope we continue to be as impressed as we progress through to the next stages of his treatment.

Many thanks for taking the time to post your comments - these have been shared with the teams responsible. It is always good to hear that the staff have achieved the high standards of care that we aim to provide. Mary Edwards, Chief Executive.
