"Hip replacement shambles"

About: Cumberland Infirmary

Anything else?

I live in Carlisle and chose Cumberland Infirmary rather than Hexham for a hip replacement. This website showed average waiting time of 17 weeks ( still does!). After GP referal, a letter in October 12 confirmed operation to do done within 4 months (meeting the constitutional 18 weeks max). They put me on standby again and again through February to April. Eventually offered 3rd May and confirmed by letter, but then that was cancelled. Verbally offered June 10th in Whitehaven, but read in newspaper yesterday that that is now the day for closing orthopaedic operations in Whitehaven. What a shambles! Had the mobility equipment at home since beginning of Feb. called in for pre-op procedures twice; only two pieces of correspondence received in all this time (those mentioned above) Should I choose Hexham and start again, I wonder.
