"35 minute wait for an Ambulance to arrive after my child had been hit by a car"

About: Royal United Hospital / Accident and emergency South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a parent/guardian),

My 7 year old son was hit by a car in Locking Close in mid May 2013. A 999 call was made around tea time and after waiting 20 minutes there had still not been an attendance by the ambulance service, so another 999 call was made.

The response car and ambulance eventually turned up at about 35 minutes later.

The ambulance paperwork showed that they did not receive the call until 20 minutes after we called.

Why was there such a delay?

Surly a 7 year old child left lying in the road for nearly 35 minutes is not acceptable, why was there such a delay in informing the ambulance especially as they were only in trowbridge?
