My mother underwent major surgery for cancer, and was discharged too soon. I had to readmit her, by calling an ambulance. She had post-operative complications that could have been avoided, but the rush to free the hospital bed was paramount despite the number of empty beds in the Victor Bonney Ward. She was recently discharged again this week, and I was assured that she would have a zimmer frame, a panic button and a key safe installed so that the social services care workers could visit her three times a day. She was discharged without checking that any of these things were in place, she cannot answer the door, she cannot get out of bed and she needs incontinence pants which were not supplied, despite being assured that they would be. There is no information provided to the family member taking care of the patient, and I am completely disgusted by the way an elderly patient, in such a weak condition was treated.
