"My stay at wexham"

About: Wexham Park Hospital

Anything else?

From the moment I arrived in A & E by ambulance I was seen quickly and efficiently and was informed of what was going on by my designated nurse. They were lovely in x-ray and ct. Once on the ward I was looked after by friendly nursing staff. Special mention for matron on ward 1a who was sympathetic when I was crying, drew the curtains round my bed and got down on her knees to hold my hand and reassure me about the two operations I was undergoing. I was moved to ward 1b after my first op and the staff were kind there too. Special mention for the catering lady and the cleaner, marvellous friendly and efficient. Now it can't all be good can it, life is just not like that however, the food needs a rethink, I am not a fussy eater but I lived on toast made by the catering lady! I think this will always be a grey area because of the sheer magnitude of the hospital. The only other criticism I have was of my departure. I came back from my op on Wednesday evening at 6.30 p.m. and was told 24 hour obs. I was allergic to the morphine and was terribly sick during the night, in the morning I was injected with fragmen (blood thinner) and told that I would be shown how to inject it myself the following morning (Friday). This never happened as I was discharged at 1.00p.m. Thursday! My last obs were taken just before the changeover at 7.00 a.m. Thursday! I was not shown how to inject myself, so the following morning had to watch a DVD on self injection which you can only imagine, as I have a fear of needles was most traumatic. I did feel a little let down at this point especially as one of the male nurses said to me "I cannot believe they are sending you home after the night you have had". Last but not least to end on a positive note I would like to thank the ladies in the plaster room who were fabulous, kind and efficient even though they were up against it! If I could rate wexham park out of 10, I would give you a 7 which is not bad because the most important parts of my stay, nurses, doctors, consultants, paramedics, cleaners, caterers would get 10 out of 10.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback on your experience. It is really good to hear how caring our staff. We are sorry to hear though that you were not clearly shown or told how to inject yourself, and we will ensure this is fed back to the ward. We will ensure that your feedback is shared with all of the teams concerned, which will undoubtedly be gratefully received. We also hope that you have made a good recovery.
