The care of my daughter in law, initially in A & E at the LRI was dispicable! During three, separate visits and finally 3 separate admissions, in severe pain due to a kidney infections, while pregnant, it took 2 hours or more to be seen, at one point she was doubled up on the floor in pain, begging for help. All three times treated as though she didn't know what was happenning to her, that there was no need for a bed, though gradually getting worse, it took 5- 6 hours for her to get a bed without treatment, the proof as to how poorley she was, being put on an antibiotic drip as soon as she arrived on the ward and becoming very poorly with a stay of a week each time.
During the first stay she had to continally remind nurses and doctors that she was pregnant and allergic to penicillin.
Was given the wrong antibiotic, getting chest pain and breathlessness.
Had to get out of bed, drip and all to help other patients because no one would come.
Help women care for their newborns after c-sections because they struggled to move and no else helped them. Women where asking her to help them!
Lining up for dinner in the evenings and no dinner left so partner had to go out and get food.
Rubbish left around beds.
Cardboard bedpan left on locker all day.
Different types of care given when administering of antibiotics via the cannular some nurses injecting it in carefully and slowly, others just "ramming it in" causing discomfort and tissuing
An ex nurse myself, I can see that care, compassion, cleanliness, lack of staff, lack of rescorces for our ever growing population, lack of "bedside nurses," poor leadership and basic people skills, are severely lacking at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. I would not be able to sleep at night if I was a member of staff!
I fear for other mums to be and those waiting in A and E for hours in corridors, cold and waiting for beds..... that's if they make it to one.
It appears that the LRI is not the safest place to be when ill. Thank goodness she was concious and able to to remind nurses of her needs. Puts me in mind of hospitals recently in the press!!
