Anything else?
I attended the unit for a Gastroscopy and from my first contact at reception until I left the department, only 1hr 20 mins. later, I was very impressed by everyone I met.
The reception manager was friendly and efficient.
The nurse doing the necessary safety and consent checks was just as friendly and effective, even though they were short staffed.
The consultant and nurse were very friendly and informative and made me feel that they thought of me as an individual, not just a slab of meat to be inspected. At one point in the procedure they discovered something that surprised them and they called for a colleague to give another opinion, and even took time to speak to me. All through they were telling me what was happening and what they were finding.
When they had time, the nurse took the effort to lay her hand on the back of my shoulder, a small gesture, but they clearly knew that it helped me relax.
After the procedure they took time to show me one of the images they had taken of me, so I could understand what they had found.
Basically the entire team made my visit as easy and comfortable as it could possibly be.
"They made the procedure almost fun."
