"Endoscopy: a much happier experience this time"

About: Good Hope Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Yesterday I went for a Sigmoidoscopy and Polypectomy at Good Hope Hospital and after my "Upsetting time in the Scoping Unit" I had previously commented on this time things couldn't have been more different and pleasanter.

The staff were very friendly, put me at my ease and treated me as an individual with dignity, the sister especially went out of her way to make sure I was OK and my consultant explained everything to me.

I remember very little of this procedure thanks to sedative and pain management. Yes, I did experience some pain but it didn't last too long and I was given an explanation as to why this happened then and during the colonoscopy I'd had in January.

I came very close to refusing to go through with this second procedure after my past experience but now I'm very glad I attended and I shall not have to worry any more about that pesky polyp.

I would like to thank ALL the team for giving me happier memories of my visit with them and for the care and attention I had, they were brilliant especially as I was so anxious. Thank you!

I would also like to thank the discharge team who also looked after me in a friendly and caring manner.
