"A hospital that can't tell their right from left!"

About: East Surrey Hospital

Anything else?

I was taken to A&E with severe abdominal pain on my right hand side I was 9 weeks pregnant at the time, was then taken to the gynea ward. I was treated well at the start but it was as if once they got the pain under control i was pretty much ignored. After a few scans and being left unwashed ( every time I moved the pain came back ) for 2 days they finally came to conclusion I had a very large cyst on my right ovary 76 mm they arranged surgery.

I have underlying health conditions they new about. Just before wheeling me off to theatre my consultant was finally phoned and asked about risks only to find out had they have operated my baby had a 75% chance of being severly brain damaged!

One night I complained about severe pain again I was fobbed off and no one took notice, when consultant finally looked in the morning my bladder was ready to explode!

One nurse while putting in a catheter for fluids was told by myself that if she put the catheter there she would dislocate my joints ( due to med condition) she laughed and did it anyway and dislocated my thumb!

My blood pressure medication was withheld many times cause they forgot to ask the consultant to prescribe it leading to very low blood pressure!

It took my husband a gardener to look at my medication notes to point out to the consultant that the spacing of my pain relief was not correct 1 at 4 hours apart 2 at 10 hours apart no wonder I was in agony!

When finally discharged my notes said I have a large cyst on the left hand side measured at 6mm? and a small cyst on the right, you were going to operate on the right with the possibility of removing my ovary!! Which side is it. All my medication was written down wrong and they said it would take over an hour to get it right, just take what the consultants told you to they said but did not give me enough to last the week! Needless to say I will not be coming back this is me and my baby you were risking and had the op of happened you could have destroyed any chance I had of conceiving again! I have spent the last 2 weeks trying to get hold of my scan results still to no avail.

I was so sorry to hear of your experience. Our gynae team would very much like to discuss your care as clearly it was not of the high standard we expect our patients to receive. Please could you contact Bill Kilvington, Associate Director Women & Child Health, on 01737 768511 Ext. 6582 or email bill.kilvington@sash.nhs.uk

Kind regards,

Fionnula
