Anything else?
I have been an inpatient in meau recently. My relative is receiving chemo for breast cancer at the moment, so I have two reviews.
I am a nurse myself, a nurse who was trained in the 80s. We trained to care and to listen. Meau, waddington unit, Ingham chemo unit, all have similar issues, which calls into question whether the culture of this hospital is generally all wrong.
1. Discharge delays. Most are caused by the pharmacy. Despicable service.
2. Lack of communication. Staff walk around in this bubble where patients are expected to just sit down, shut up and wait....relatively no information given, this is markedly true in I Guam unit. Sick people undergoing chemo can't even have someone sat with them because of lack of space. Inhuman waits for treatment when you feel awful is not funny.
3. Lack of care. A lady with dementia in meau was not able to eat or drink by herself. Her daughter told staff this but food and drink was dumped next to her. I told staff to help her and grudgingly they did, however yet again it wasn't communicated to other shifts and I had to repeat myself. Utterly scary.
Sort it out you lot!
"good in some, appalling in others"
