"Short diagnostic stay with suspected bleed -..."

About: National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery - Queen Square

Anything else?

. I came into the ward on Thursday night (2nd May 2013) transferred from the Royal Free with a suspected bleed. Thankfully, after an angiogram the following day and subsequent review of the notes I was discharged home on Sunday 5th May 2013.

Generally I was feeling pretty well during my stay which allowed me to observe all the comings and goings on the ward. So I can say that I believe the care delivered on the ward was universally excellent.

Professionalism: The staff took the time to explain to patients, in terms that they understood, what they were doing and why. From my own experience arriving late at night, the nurse took time to explain what was likely to happen the following day, helping alleviate any immediate concerns I had. More generally, I witnessed many examples of the nursing staff taking the time to explain what was happening and engendering confidence in the patients.

Care: In all interactions, from the staff serving the food to the clinical staff (nurses and HCAs) a genuine care was exhibited to the patients. Especially the patients in more distress where they actively considered how to make the patients as comfortable as possible

Hard work: There were plenty of examples of the team working hard, especially the nursing staff that seemed to naturally just shift into an extra gear when a few more demanding cases came onto the ward.

Humor: Everything was done with a smile and where appropriate small joke or encouragement with the patients.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write about your experience of your care at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. We are extremely grateful for your positive comments about the high quality of care that you received. I will of course pass these comments onto the nurses and the wider ward team. Thank you again.
