"I no longer trust doctors or nurses"

I was personally in hospital. I started in A&E, which was swift, then I went to HAU, then I was put on the 7th floor and then finally down to gynaecology.

Although a couple of the nurses were outstanding, and the other nurses were nice enough and as helpful as they could be, I felt like I was stuck in a hospital abroad as a large majority of the nurses didn't speak english very well so any questions or concerns I raised weren't answered. When you are ill in hospital it is important to be able to communicate with people. It was also upsetting and highly unprofessional that nurses openly contradicted each other and told me how procedures carried out by other nurses were wrong e.g. I was injected in the wrong place and the I.V. needle was put in the wrong place. I don't need to know things like that, being told of other nurses incompetencies is really unsettling before an operation. I also don't feel that when I ask a question it should be met by a flippant answer. I'm pretty sure i'm not the only person who doesn't have a great sense of humor when I have just been told horrible news before an operation. Also, if I am in pain and trying to walk I don't expect to be taunted by a nurse who I have just asked for help. And I don't expect to see other nurses ignore other patients as they are clearly irritated by them.

I was also unsettled that one doc suggested I should have a procedure that I might not need saying they should remove my appendix 'just in case' (luckily the surgeon didn't agree), while another doc wanted to send me home before a scan that I did need, the very scan that showed why I was in so much pain, what was wrong with me and why I needed an operation.

Everyone knows that hospital food is bad, but I am also wondering why I was asked to fill out a form in relation to what I wanted to eat and then have the form ignored, what a pointless task and waste of everyones time.

I was impressed by the cleanliness of the hospital and I do thank the few doctors, nurses and porters who helped me and who were professional, but sadly the experience of being in hospital has left me feeling rather traumatised. I really held doctors and nurses in high esteem, but after being in hospital for a week I no longer trust them.
