Father admitted to ccu Put in female bay. One toilet. Father told he could have commode. I feel this unacceptable in a female bay. This due to bed shortages in the hospital. 5 weeks before 76 father had fall. Paramedics called. Should have gone to Sunderland ae. Redirected south Tyneside. Father patient 5weeks. Again not acceptable. The staff in both hospitals could not fault care. But!!! Care should have been available at Sunderland

Thank you for your comments regarding the care of your father. We strive to ensure that our patients are accommodated with patients of the same sex in the ward bay and are sorry that the accommodation for your father fell short of this standard on this occassion. In busy times during the winter, ambulances may need to be diverted to other local Emergency Departments to ensure that the care we are providing in our Emergency Department is safe for all patients. We are pleased that your father received good care at both hospitals and noting the number of times patients are diverted to other hospitals assists us with our planning for winter contingencies.
