"Baby daughter's treatment "

About: Alexandra Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

Our baby daughter has been having development issues over the past 6 months.

Having contacted our doctor, we were referred to Redditch Alexandra Hospital for a check up with a pediatrician. This was obviously a very nervous time for us as parents, and we were not sure what to expect as an outcome of this first meeting.

Before taking our baby daughter in to see the pediatrician, some nurses who were fabulous, helped us to feel at ease were weighing her and preparing the details for the meeting, in which they said "there definitely is something wrong". We knew and they knew, and we waited to take her in to see the pediatrician.

When called we were confronted by a pediatrician who explained their was a student nurse in the room, which we agreed was fine. After a checkup, the doctor explained that their was nothing to worry about and everything was fine, he looked at the student nurse (who had never had a child) and they both laughed as nothing was wrong and she was absolutely fine. We left feeling like they had missed something.

We weren't happy with the outcome of this meeting and went back, hopefully to get a second opinion. Unfortunately it was the same pediatrician again and this time their tone had changed, then said in front of us "There is something wrong".

Our daughter was having issues sitting, walking and placing weight on her feet. This began a series of MRI scans, support groups for development and a worrying 6 months in helping our daughter literally get on her feet.

We were disappointed by the lack of understanding from the pediatrician in to our 'parents intuition' especially as this was our second child, and the fact that our daughter could have been given the nod to receive some supportive treatment up to 12 weeks sooner than she initially received.
