"Kidney stones surgery"

About: Darent Valley Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

I had an operation to remove kidney stones and was in daycare unit overnight.

A nurse nearly overdosed me on paracetamol because she wasn't recording my drug chart properly.

The only thing I had to eat was toast, not offered any dinner.

Many of the staff were from overseas and I couldn't understand them properly. This is just the start. I shall be complaining to the care quality commission or whoever oversees care at hospitals and also sending them some photos I took of things at this hospital.

I was sorry to see from the NHS Choices website that you have had an unsatisfactory experience of care at this hospital. The Trust takes the comments from the website very seriously and I would invite you to contact our Complaints Department as a first step to our being able to investigate the circumstances of the experience you have described. We adhere to the national NHS complaints procedures, will acknowledge your complaint within three days and will then respond to you following the investigation and reports from those involved.

Whilst it is of course entirely your prerogative to report your experience to any of the national bodies which are concerned with quality within the NHS they usually will ask whether the Trust has been given an opportunity to investigate and respond to the issues of concern.

I do hope that you will give us the opportunity to deal with your concerns through the complaints process.

Kind regards

Kate King

Director of Nursing
