I took my son aged 4 to the urgent care center to be seen by a doctor during the afternoon after being poorly at school there were 10 people in front of us and 3 doctors on I was told on arrival it could be up to 2 hour wait. I thought they just told us that to be on the safe side and we would be out by then. I don't no what the doctors do as we were there 2 and a half hours with 2 children under the age of 5 getting tired and bored of waiting. 1 patient went in came out and another 1 didn't go in for approx another 20 mins what were they doing having a tea break in between each person. With it being a hospital you would have thought it would a quicker turn around 1 in 1 out don't no what they would do if it was full. The lack of children's toys also does not help there is only so long you can play with bead movers which are attached to the table there is no books, paper or pencils to keep the children occupied when you are there such a long time.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the delay in your son being seen on this occasion, we appreciate it can be very difficult to have to wait, especially with young children.

We would like to reassure you that none of our clinicians would be wasting time when they are so busy. They see approximately 1,000 patients per week at the Urgent Care Centre and do like to spend sufficient time with each patient to fully understand their concerns. There is a delay in between seeing one patient to the next because on completion of each consultation, the clinicians have to write up the patient notes. They will then take a few minutes to review the notes of their next patient before calling them to the consulting room.

We are also always looking for new ways of entertaining children whilst they are waiting to be seen. The Urgent Care Centre has previously spent a considerable amount of public money on children’s toys for the waiting room but sadly these are usually lost or taken from the centre within 48 hours of being put out for the children. Unfortunately, the only entertainment that remains is the fixed large beaded table for children.
