About: John Radcliffe Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

I am extremely pleased with the treatment my son aged 17 received in Nov 2007. During his time in the Emergency Surgery Unit the medical staff and consultants were absolutely professional.

I have a very high regard for the way they dealt with his care and the explanations we got before each procedure. Clearly these are some of the brightest people on the planet and yet they had the ability to come down to our level and make us feel comfortable when it came to some of the complicated procedures.

The nursing staff dealt with a very difficult patient awaiting surgery who was a young person in the same ward, clearly a heroin addict and was not ashamed to tell the whole ward he wanted his methadone dose immediately. The nursing team were firm but polite even when he became demanding they supported one another and kept him calm which was admirable.

The staff at the restaurant on the 3rd floor were great. They work as a good team. In particular the Polish speaking people were super efficient, quick to provide ideas for hot meals and tell you choices and availability. Even in the late hours of the evening at 10 pm, they recognised and greeted me. I had been in a few times over the days and they remembered. What a pleasant experience when I had to deal with the stress of an accident and the unknown outcome. Many people in the hospital where from foreign countries. To name a few Poland, Mongolia, Russia, Asia, South Africa and many more. Some were cleaners, others were surgeons but all the ones I met were great at what they did. They had a high regard for the patient or the customer and in the end that is all that counts when you are around people who are really sick.

Many thanks from me and my son to ALL the people who make this hospital what it is and may they enjoy some well deserved rest and joy with their loved ones this Christmas.

Kind regards

from a very grateful Mum.
