Whoever controls the budget and duty rota for staffing in ward 6 in Dr Grays should hang their head in shame. After a week long stay there, I was horrified by staffing levels on this very elderly patient ward where a lot of patients need everything done for them. Over the week, very few shifts were fully staffed.
This is very detrimental to the patients. We often had to wait for attendance for a considerable time. I personally had to wait up to an hour for pain relief on a couple of occasions, (which was not pleasant ) but what can they do? Everyone needs attention and rightly no one takes priority.
Sharing a ward with 3 ladies in their 80's, they also waited a long time for attention. Nearly every night, they were exhausted as they did not get help to get to bed till at least 11 pm, nearer midnight most nights. But again the staff were working short staffed what could they do?
Staff morale must be low with the constant lack of bodies on the floor. It is totally unfair to treat hardworking nurses like that.
