"Poor experience at endocrinology"

About: St John's Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

I feel the care I received was not only horrendous it was detrimental to my health.

No info was given by the doctor regarding drugs prescribed, no history taken, no examination, bad attitude, arrogant, condescending manner, no communication skills, not a shred of integrity, in fact the complete opposite of what the GMC state here:

We are very sorry to hear of your experience and apologise for the length of time it has taken to respond to your concerns.

If you have not already done so, can I encourage you to make your concerns known in full to our Customer Relations and Feedback Team on craft@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk so that we can investigate this fully and improve the service we offer?

Thanks a lot for taking time to respond Stuart. I have mailed my concerns to Customer Relations and also information on more serious matters relating to my case.....One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest springs to mind,

You have given me a glimmer of hope when all my trust was gone and that means a lot.

After a subsequent call from the complaints team manager who promised to look into my case, I had still a glimmer of hope. However this was well and truly dashed when I received a letter telling me there was nothing they could do. Regarding the numerous references to my complaint contained in my medical records, they informed me that it was up to the doctor to decide whether this was removed or not - so much for complaints being confidential.

After receiving information from my complaint file, I was horrified to read that I had also been seemingly labelled as a regular despite the fact I have only complained once.

Patients are vulnerable enough and it takes a lot of courage to make a complaint about a doctor - being referred to as a regular and being told it is up to the doctor you complained about whether information regarding your complaint is removed from your medical records hardly instills confidence in NHS Lothian complaints procedures.

It also greatly affects how you are treated or not treated as the case may be by other doctors/consultants making patients even more vulnerable and potentially has a massive impact on their health.
