About: Cumberland Infirmary

Anything else?

I have spent far too much time at the infirmary of late with mixed results. my mother in law was taken in after a fall she was to be kept in for observation over the w/e but was exposed to, and caught , the norovirus and spent 6 wks slowly turning skeletal . all the other old ladies in the ward were very ill and seemed to be just waiting to die , very little dignity and awful for visitors to witness [ especially when its twice a day ] We took her out in the end ,but it feels like we took a stranger home .

Totally different to that , I had a knee replaced 6 weeks ago and my experience with the Trauma & Orthopaedics unit was faultless. We were involved at every stage of the process , had a classroom session a week before admission to give us in depth information on our ops , meaured for crutches and allowed to take them home to practice . Nothing was too much trouble , and the after Op care was excellent . It was so good I was discharged after just 2 days walking perfectly well ... I thank them all sincerely.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on the NHS Choices website. It is really important that we hear from our patients so that we can address any issues they may have. Although you were pleased with the care you received, it is a concern to us that you feel your mother-in-law's care could have been better. We have a Patient Advice and Liaison Service which is always happy to talk and support patients as they are making their journey through our hospitals. They can be contacted on 01228 814008.
