"Not enough nursing staff at weekends"

About: Wexham Park Hospital

Anything else?

When visiting my brother last weekend in ward 18 there was one nurse looking after approx 40 patients and he had trouble understanding English. They are so short staffed patients are put in nappies so nurses don't have to provide a bed pan when required, how degrading & undignified is that. The table where his food was served was dirty it had not been cleaned from the last meal, not able to discuss my brothers progress as the nurse didn't see to know anything about his condition.

The management need to start managing and address these problems, its all down to lack of staff.

We are really sorry to hear of your concerns whilst visiting your brother on Ward 18, especially with regard to patients' privacy and dignity not being maintained. Ward 18 is a 26 bedded ward and we are not aware of any significant staffing issues that would have impacted on patient care in recent weeks. Your comment has been shared with the Ward Matron, Margaret Wesonga, for Ward 18 who is keen to speak with you as she is very disappointed to hear of your experience. Margaret can be contacted on 01753 634687.

Alternatively, if you would like us to formally investigate the matter for you, please contact our Patient Relations team on 01753 634081 or via email patientrelations@hwph-tr.nhs.uk providing further details.
