"my journey to my new life"

About: Wythenshawe Hospital

Anything else?

i was referred to wythenshawe in sept,2011,to a consultant,he diagnosed takayasu artiritis, end the end of the aorta, thus narrowing my arteries to my kidneys, bowels and spleen,he set about getting me fit and losing weight for the operation,i undertook my test and it was never ending! i lost two stone for april,2012 and a date was set for surgery in july 2012,i was also swiimming up to 5 times a week to strengthen my heart and lungs ready for the op,he has put a dacron graft along side my aorta and connected my arteries to my kidneys, bowel and spleen to this, thus bypassing the disease, which i was told was very rare, and it would have killed me if two veins in my back hadnt gone like pencils and fed my lower body,(how lucky was i!),to wrap it all up,i cant thank the dedication of mainly this consultant and his team who looked after me,and got me through this very tough scary time and i will b forever grateful,he was a hard task master, but for all the right reasons and i would go through it all again,(if i had too),to feel like i do now,its been an amazing, scary, and wonderful journey for which i certainly look at life a lot differently now and love every minute of every waking day now.................thankyou so very much xxx

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on the NHS Choices Website.

Your comments have been forwarded to staff in the Vascular Surgery Department, who I know are always appreciative when a patient gives such positive feedback.

Kind regards

The Patient Experience Department
