I visited my father on a weekend when there aren't really many people about however, I still expect staff to maintain hygiene. I use the word maintain loosely. The Barrier nursing is a joke, the gloves 'may' make some difference but the plastic aprons are a joke, they won't protect transference at all. My brother (a Dr) had to shave my dad, wash and wet comb his hair, he was so disheveled after being at the hospital for 6 days. This is appalling. He said in his day (he's only 49) and now in private practice, the nurses kept patients clean and tidy. What is wrong with hospitals these days. You go into get better but catch all sorts of things whilst in there. Bring back matrons, bring back a sense of pride. Patients are human beings and deserve the best care period. It's far too lax in my opinion, plus my dad had wet the bed but this had gone unnoticed which say's it all really. Busy, pah, too busy with writing notes etc than doing the job at hand. I find this wherever I've visited. The NHS needs a good shake up. I know nurses work hard but there is huge failure. They didn't even have a stand to hand my dads drip because they had run out! It was hung by the telephone stand which was pulled to it's limit. If my dad moved his hand it would have pulled the drip out! He has Alzheimer so wouldn't be aware. Shameful.
