"Disgusted."

About: Leicester General Hospital

Anything else?

My mum stayed in Leicester general hospital for one night. I felt disgusted with the amount of comfort they provided. She doesn't speak well English but is able to communicate and be understood. The night she arrived she had no water on her bedside. We asked for it- and nothing until we had to ask the third time.

She was told not to eat as there was a possibility she could be having an operation the next day. However as soon as she was told she could eat no nurse offered her food until we arrived for visiting at around 6pm- she didn't have nothing to eat since breakfast.

When she first arrived, we asked for a night gown for one night so we didn't have to go home. Before we left when visiting times finished, we asked for it again. After we left my mum asked for it again- she ended up sleeping with her own clothes- very uncomfortably. Furthermore, during the night a window was left slightly open, my mum was cold and had to use her OWN jacket to cover herself even after nurses had seen she was cold. She woke up with a very bad cold and still suffering from it.

She went for a scan and was again told she couldn't eat until the scan results were back. Once these were back by around 1 pm she was told she could eat. When we got there at 4 she still had not eaten. When I approached a nurse she said all she could do was make her toast. Not all, but many nurses were very arrogant, including one of the nurses looking after my mum.

I've been to many hospitals and known people who had prolonged stays, but no hospital was worse than this one.

We are sorry to hear of your poor experiences on urology at the Leicester General Hospital, this is not the high standard we expect to be provided by our staff. Please be assured that your experiences will be reported to the ward sister and team in order for staff to reflect on your concerns. If we can be of any further assistance then please contact our Patient Information and Liaison Service on 08081 788337 who can take more information from you and coordinate investigations into your specific concerns relating to your mother's care. http://www.leicestershospitals.nhs.uk/patients/patient-welfare/patient-information-and-liaison-service/
