Anything else?
Ok, I decided to wait a few days before writing this review as I didn't want to write it in anger. For a being a taxpayer funded service I didn't have expectations of grandeur. However, this place was shocking. It's like a hub where every drugged up obnoxious idiot is given free reign to do whatever they want. They employ security guards, one couldn't care less what was happening in the A and E waiting room. Another seemed like he might be useful but decided to occupy himself elsewhere for hours dealing with one stroppy patient who ripped up toilet roll everywhere and threw it on the A and E floor. The other security guard saw fit to just natter away to some other patient and give cursory glances to the drunk tramp who was walking around two patients in wheelchairs, one of which was a young boy who the tramp wrapped a towel around the boys neck and shook him to see if he would respond. On the other patient the tramp took off the patients scarf and pulled on slings and moved his arms like a puppet. The security guard saw nothing wrong with this picture. Or found it funny. Other patients had to step in. Another idiot was shouting that he hadn't been seen in a few hours and saw fit to insult everyone he looked at, he would sit right up next to people and engage them with very threatening obnoxious behaviour, like questions of your heritage. Again, the security guard could care less. However when some scared girl broke down crying and screaming at the poor treatment or her family, about 4-5 police and security guards emerged from another room and escorted her out. On cleanliness, the most this place was ever cleaned (In the 5 hours I spent there waiting for an extremely painful condition) was a sweeping/ removal of the bowls of vomit. If you look closely at the floor you can see years of dirt caked between the deformed seams of lino. On "hygiene", this place had heard of it and assumed it was a joke. I never once saw a member of staff touch an alcohol gel dispenser. The green area door had number pads to grant access, within 30 minutes I already knew (from halfway across the room) the 4 digit access codes, one used by security staff and police, the other used by nurses and doctors. Both of which shared one number the same. Every member of staff passing entering through this door pressed this key. On exiting, you push a switch. In the five hours I spend here, nobody cleaned either of these buttons. It was the same case for the door on the other end of the room leading to the amber area. With my treatment, each time I was called into the ward I was seen by a completely different doctor, after five hours the results of the blood test came back and the stabbing pain in my chest was: "something to do with your pancreas" on which the doctor walked out of the room, obviously case closed.
If I was perfectly fit and healthy and decided I wanted a nosocomial infection, that A and E waiting room would be the place to go.
"It was a very unpleasant experience coming here...."
