"I went into Treliske with a friend ..."

About: Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

(as a relative),

What I liked

I went into Treliske with a friend who had attempted suicide by taking an overdose of paracetomol. Although the staff did their best and were very caring they didn't have enough time to give her what she needed. We were put in a dirty white room where we waited an hour or two for blood test results, then she was admitted and put on a drip. If I hadn't have been there I don't think she would have stayed and waited for the results considering her mental condition. I couldn't critisize the staff, they did their best but were obviously overworked and exhausted many of them.

What could be improved

She needed a counsellor to talk to her there and then. She was asked if she wanted counselling in the future but declined. I think she needed professional support at that time. It was very traumatic waiting for the results in the room. There was dirt all over the walls and blood on the seats and stark white light. I found it very traumatic but if I hadn't have been there I don't know what she would have done. It is my opinion she suffering from post natal depression - a doctor suggested this to her but nothing was done.
