"The nurse and the doctor were ..."

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

(as the patient),

What I liked

The nurse and the doctor were very kind and caring to me, and with only a curtain separating the beds, one couldn't help but hear that they were kind and caring to everyone. An elderly gentleman in the same ward had nodded off to sleep in the chair, and on checking he was ok, I heard the nurse say, "Dear of him" which was clearly meant. Staff were constantly washing their hands.

What could be improved

The floor was regularly swept, but the anglepoise lamp above my bed had a layer of dirt on it. The curtains around my bed had another patient's blood on them. At times the sheer volume on the ward became overwhelming. The telephone rang constantly, and a very noisy dot matrix printer seemed to be in frequent use. There was a lot of shouting between staff, possibly to make themselves heard above the general din! The helper was particularly loud, which wasn't welcome, and in my opinion his manner with patients bordered on patronising. His conversation with staff seemed to revolve around his love life the night before. Show some respect, man.
