"clinical genetics"

About: Guy's Hospital

Anything else?

My son and I went there in August. Apparently it was just for a chat..no tests so very much a waste of time and expensive considering we live in Kent. The consultant subsequently made a complaint to our GP....we were not informed at any stage and it came as a shock. My son is disabled. They also had the bottle to say she was "worried about his health care".....but didnt ask about it at the time. Actually he is seen by NICE consultants just down the road.

So far no apology received. The NHS can apparently do this to you without warning so

beware. Its clearly more difficult for patients to make a complaint against doctors than the other way round.

Clinical genetics is a medical specialty which aims to help those affected by, or at risk of, a genetic disorder. The service works with a number of specialities to diagnose and assess the risk of individuals or families inheriting a genetic condition. It is not always possible to make a specific diagnosis for a family or child. However, a genetic assessment is aimed at helping individuals to understand the possible diagnoses and treatment options, the need for appropriate health checks as well as any potential impact on the wider family.

Genetic specialists play a strong role in patient advocacy and we are therefore very sorry to hear of your experience with our service. Please contact us directly so that we can ensure that communication with patients, families and local clinicians can be improved.

Please email us at geneticsappointments@gstt.nhs.uk or call our direct line on 020 7188 1364.
