"car parking charges if you have a blue badge"

About: Cheltenham General Hospital

Anything else?

I think it is appalling to have a system in place that penalises blue badge holders if they are unable to find a disabled space. Surely the whole point of having the blue badge means that your ability to travel is already difficult, public transport will not be an option and so parking as near as possible to where you need to go would seem logical. I know there are a number of disabled spaces and these have been increased. I'm not asking for more as this then penalises other drivers who cannot use them. However I think it grossly unfair to charge someone for parking when it has already been established by the provision of a blue badge that they need to use a car and cannot possibly know if a space is available or not.

Many thanks for your feedback. We aim to make parking at our hospitals as easy as possible and to communicate clear information about all the options available. Nationally it is recommended that six percent of visitor car parking spaces are accessible blue badge holder spaces. Following feedback from patients and visitors this has increased to 15% at Gloucestershire Royal and 20% at Cheltenham General. However, we do understand your concerns and will pass them on to our travel and parking team. If you would like to speak to someone directly please do call our PALS team on 0800 019 3282 or email pals.gloucestershirehospitals@glos.nhs.uk
