My 89 year old mother who was very poorly and very frail but mentally fine, was admitted in November 2012 and stayed until February 2013. After assessment for a few days, she had to have a major operation and was a patient in Intensive Therapy , High Dependency, a general ward and the C3, an elderly care ward. During all this, the standard of medical care was excellent and the staff members were both proficient and caring. I am not medically qualified at all but some of our family and friends are, therefore this helps me say I am confident of the accuracy of what I write. Obviously, I could judge cleanliness and food quality, etc myself and thought them perfectly fine.

In the latter part of my mother's stay, two other patients in the four bed bay had dementia (what a difficult state that is to suffer and to nurse) and this disturbed my mother rather a lot but I cannot see how better the hospital could deal with it. I don't think we are allowed to mention staff names on here but I would like to say one member of the team is a very kind care assistant, who seemed to look after my mother quite a bit, so patient and so kind, I got to chatting to her when she was on duty. Also there is the consultant who rules with a rod of iron - no bad thing these days.
