"My husband was admitted for 5 ..."

About: Derriford Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My husband was admitted for 5 very long days. The nursing staff were excellent, they helped as much as they could, which was nearer a miracle as on 4 nights out of 5 there were only 2 fully trained nurses, and 2 enrolled for a ward of 34 patients. Totally disgraeful. Patients were waiting over 20 minutes for their buzzers to be answered. In this day and age it is not acceptable. As for filth on the wards, I seriously can't understand how this hospital gets away with it. Are there no supervisors to check the workers? What is the point of having everyone wash their hands before they enter a ward, if the ward is filthy? Food was dire too. Open breakfast cereals on top of trollys, people going past coughing and spreading diseases, no wonder they suffer with superbugs here.

What could be improved

get supervisors in to "supervise" the cleaning. Better still, bring back matron, she'll get things moving!

Food could be a lot better.

More fully trained staff so patients can be looked after properly.
