"Why is ordering takeaways on the ward allowed?"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

I was admitted onto ward B20 in Sunderland Royal Hospital to wait overnight for a CT scan. I had a serious headache and was nauseous.

The staff were lovely particularly the ward sister. It was some of the other patients that caused me to sign myself out at midnight that evening thus missing the CT scan.

I cannot believe that the hospital hierarchy allows patients to order in pizzas, fish and chips and other takeaway food. The smell made my nausea even worse. The pizza delivery man did not wash his hands coming or going.

I won't comment on the foul language being used on the ward but I don't know how the staff cope with it.

Please can someone justify the ordering of takeaways?
