"The hospital is a lovely place ..."

About: Cheltenham General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The hospital is a lovely place to be, no problem at all with staff or helpfulness but the experience of parking is something else!!

What could be improved

the car park should be paid for on the WAY OUT, NOT the way in, the traffic queue was ridiculous outside the hospital yesterday, you expect patients to travel to appointments but you can hardly ever get a parking spot and now it is ludicrous the way the car park has been organised, no doubt consultants paid a lot for this input!!

There is going to be an accident here as sure as sure, in fact I was at the hospital a month or so ago and a car went up the back of another whilst I was receiving treatment as we heard the smash, please get this sorted as soon as possible it is really STUPID!!

PAYMENT GOING OUT WILL NOT BLOCK UP THE ROADS ONLY THE INTERNAL CAR PARK WHICH WILL NOT MATTER - HOW COULD THE HOSPITAL TRUST ALLOW THIS

Many thanks for your comments about our friendly hospital staff.

We are sorry that you had a difficult experience parking at Cheltenham General

Hospital, we are working hard to improve parking for our patients but we do recognise that more people want to park their cars than we have spaces for.

The queue you describe was people waiting for a ticket to gain entry to the car park, not paying to enter.

The barrier will not raise and a ticket cannot be obtained until there is a space in the car park – unfortunately it does sometimes happen that people have to wait for a space. Payment takes place after treatment and immediately before leaving the car park.

Part of the Trust’s plans to improve parking include building a multi-storey car park – work begins on this in 2008.

Currently we have temporarily lost some car parking spaces at CGH because there is a major £16m building programme underway.

The Trust also has a regularly revised Green Transport Plan which encourages staff not to bring their cars to work, we also work in partnership with public transport companies to provide good services to our hospitals.

Please bear with us whilst we make things better for the future.
