"My husband has a drink problem "

About: Boston DART

(as a relative),

My husband went on a 5 day drinking binge, was depressed, upset with mortal thoughts. I was given the telephone number of DART who then referred me to OASIS.

I was offered an appointment the following day to see a counsellor at OASIS and have seen the same person on a one-to-one level. Her support has been tremendous along with the doctors who diagnosed my husband with severe depression.

With the correct medication my husband has felt the best he has done in the last 8 years. This should have been sorted sooner but it was only at this point that my husband knew he had a problem and needed help.

DART could have been quicker in seeing my husband. They saw him for an initial assessment the week it happened, but has been over a month to him having an appointment. Thankfully he hadn't relapsed in this time.

DART were very pleased to hear that a relative has had such a positive experience with our OASIS colleagues and that a DART referral was seen within a week of a crisis and given tremendous support from his GP. Following an initial assessment DART endeavour to offer follow up appointments by phone by the allocated key worker. We can then introduce ourselves and agree upon a mutually convenient day, time and venue for future appointments. As key workers we then provide our patients with our office and mobile telephone numbers to enable everyone to keep in touch. I would be happy to give a personalised account of why this does not appear to have happened in this case and explain why the follow up appointment was so delayed. This is not standard practice for the DART team and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
