"My Mother-in-laws rehabilitation."

Anything else?

My mother-in-law was admitted twice during late 2011 and then in April 2012. On both occasions she was well cared for, given considerable dignity despite suffering from dementia. On her first admission staff worked hard to lessen her confusion and to rehabilitate her following a broken pelvis. They also tried to give her back her independence. Her social worker was helpful, thoughtful and made good arrangements for her following discharge. On her second admission staff could not have been kinder and I was able to fully discuss her care and prognosis with the doctors and nurses responsible for her. The social worker responsible for her case (different from the first) was also very supportive and helpful. I was able to have the support and time I needed to find an appropriate home for her and all the staff helped us during this difficult time.

I have one small annoyance; that the discharge process itself, on the first occasion, was not discussed with me or my husband which led to a chaotic few hours while we had no idea when she would be returned to her home and since we did not live or work locally to her home this was not acceptable. As it happened the community support staff from Cirencester hospital were in place and they also offered a good service.

Many thanks for taking the time to share this feedback - we're sorry for the very long delay in replying to you: NHS Choices has only recently resolved some technical issues so that we can now receive comments and respond directly. We're pleased that you were happy with your mother's care, and will take your comments regarding her discharge process back to our team at Cirencester Hospital. Best wishes The team at Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust
