This happened to me last October whilst I was back in hospital yet again.

I dont know why, but for some reason I kept my money in my fag case which had a zip compartment at back, and its a good job I did.

I went out the ward for a fag, and when I came back, I noticed my handbag had been moved. I looked in it and straight away, noticed my purse was gone.

Now, my room was beside the nursing station, and there were about 6 nurses there when I left and returned, so how none of them saw anyone going into my room is a mystery, as they would have had to pass them.

Straight away I informed them, they got the police to come see me and that was that.

Then about 5 weeks later, I got a call from Falkirk CID to say they had caught the person, she was from Glasgow, and was a pro at this.

I never got my belongings back, I didnt mind about the purse, but the stuff inside I can never ever replace.

So from now on, if I have to go back into hospital, the bag stays at home as does my purse.

I'm sorry that this happened to you, however by sharing your posting it highlights that patients and staff need to be aware of the risk of thefts within healthcare settings.

I think you have raised an important point and will bring this to the attention of our patient experience groups to see if we can take some positive action to raise awareness.

Thank you Arlian, what got me was that there was a stranger walking about and passed the nursing station and entered my room.

Now the door was closed, and the curtain drawn for privacy, so this person has obviously been walking the ward and scaling it to see whats what, and yet, none of the nurses saw her!

Im happy that you are going to bring this up, and I know there cant be any cctv in wards for patient confidentiality and privacy, but for no nurses to notice this person on the ward was unacceptable, and I hope you all agree when this is brought up at your meeting.
