"My mother has advanced dementia"

About: Royal Gwent Hospital / Accident & Emergency Royal Gwent Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a relative),

My mother was admitted to RGH with a fractured hip which was sustained following a fall at her care home.

Surgery was successful. The thing that really impressed was the care that she received from the staff who appreciated that their patient had advanced dementia. Her hydration and nutrition were carefully monitored and they were so understanding when my Mum showed signs of aggression as she was frightened and unfamiliar with her surroundings.

There is a lot of negative press about the NHS and dementia sufferers, but full marks and manynthanks to RGH and to taffy on A&E, C5 West and C7 East.

Thank you very much for your comments about your mother's recent care at the Royal Gwent Hospital. We are always glad to have feedback from patients and I have sent your comments to the departments you have mentioned, so that they can be passed on to the staff concerned.

Thank you very much once again for your feedback and we wish your mum a speedy recovery following her surgery.
