I went for my annual sigmoidoscopy last week. This is the third one I've had, and the other 2 were completely painless, although I did have an excruciatingly painful colonoscopy 3 years ago.
I always have sedation, because I find these procedures very gruelling. But last week, the doctor was removing a polyp, and pumping so much air into my colon that I felt I was going to burst. It was very painful, horrendously so. At no time was I offered, or given any pain relief, and as before, I found that the sedation didn't really work.
I have to have another colonoscopy in 5 weeks, and I am dreading it.
