"Poor Treatment in Orthopaedics"

About: West Middlesex University Hospital

Anything else?

Having limped into my Doctor in July 2012, limped into West Middlesex Hospital Orthopaedics in December 2012 and still limping in March 2013 i have to say i'm extremely disappointed.

I have the distinct impression that if your complaint is not life threatening then treatment is withheld, i'm sure this is directed from top down but is of no use to the patient. Quality of life is extremely important to some people !

I have had two appointments with specialists in the Orthopaedics about a problem with my left knee. At both appointments every time i was asked a question i was cut off before i finished my answer. This is an arrogance i have encountered many times with medical people who don't seem to like their views challenged. And apart from a cursory look at the swelling at the rear of my knee there was no inspection of the knee or enquiry of how this was affecting my mobility.

Both of my knees show wear and early signs of Osteoarthritis, however i don't believe they can be that bad as before a Baker's Cyst appeared last July i was leading an active life.

The advice given by West Middlesex Orthopaedics is to just live with it !

I went to see a Physiotherapist two weeks ago and was told me that in addition to the Bakers Cyst at the rear of my knee, the front of the knee has fluid around it and is swollen. She also told me that because i can't straighten my leg properly this is causing me to limp and this is not good for the leg in general. She said the my problem was not the type of Bakers Cyst that could be treated with physio, anti-inflammatories etc.

Not impressed at all with this department and the staff that i saw, i'm almost at the point of going private but then that is what i suspect they want you to do.
