About: Peterborough City Hospital

Anything else?

My mother had a very bad fall in London and smashed her wrist very badly and because they couldn't get the broken bones to aligne they sent her back to Peterborough which took 3 hours.

Once at Peterborough we had to wait a further 2 and half hours to see a doctors who explained that they did not have the x-rays from the London hospital so a new set was requested.

My Mother last set of pain relief was at 10.30am and she had not had anything to drink or eat since 12. The Doctor said that as they were not admitting her that night but tomorrow as she need an operation. She got the call the following day only to be told that there were no beds avaliable but she would be admitted on the 16/3/13 at 7.30 for the operation. This is totally unacceptable and unbelieveable in this day and age for a new hospital not to be able to care for a 70 year old with such a bad break which could end her working life.

I am so sorry to hear of your experience and appreciate the distress caused to your mother. We, like most other hospitals, have seen a rise in emergency admissions which has meant that some of our planned surgery has been delayed. I can assure you that we are working hard with our community partners to try and address these issues and I am hopeful that a solution will be found that will mean that patients, like your mother, do not have their surgery delayed.

Once again my sincere apologies and I will ensure your comments are passed onto the relevant staff.
