I called the hospital being 17 and ½ weeks pregnant and to try and speak with a mid wife, the maternity and antenatal dept were not able to deal with me because I am not 20 weeks pregnant or so I was advised... I was eventually seen on ward 1, personally I felt the response and manner of the staff member was obstructive and unhelpful I feel this reflects poor policy practice in place. Example I was advised it is a hospital policy to refer under 20 weeks’ pregnant women to gyneacology dept for what in essence is a maternity related issue. When I did see the doctor she was helpful, and did put my mind at rest, and was able to address the problem for me. The doctor was very professional and empathetic. In conclusion I still do not have a contact number or name for a mid wife, and I am concerned that if I find myself in a similar situation again during my pregnancy I will have to repeat the process again which I would not want to do.
