Anything else?
My dad was recently transferred to North Manchester from Wigan suffering from a serious stomach cancer. The initial impression of the old hospital (apart from the new frontal building) was that it looked grim and foreboding, but this exterior really doesn't matter.. because the level of care and attention in this hospital that I have witnessed is really amazing -
My dad was admitted to ward B5 and it was a great example of team work - from tea ladies to auxiliary and staff nurses and doctors.. I can't believe how they can cope with the cases they do with such unceasing care and attention, day after day - I realise that my dad is just one of the many people who must pass through here, but that is not how it feels.. because there is a genuine sense of compassion and care at all levels - they are wonderful - they really are - my dad is now critical and has been transferred to the High Dependency Unit - and the transfer under difficult circumstances (as I'm sure they must always be) was handled in a highly professional manner.
The people in the HDU ward seamlessly took over from the others on ward B5 - those people we'd come to trust - and gave us immediate confidence that he was now again in safe hands - Mary was especially nice, she has such a lovely disposition - but then all the nursing staff are equally so caring.. its hard to imagine how these health professionals manage to cope with the levels of emotions each and every day, without ever becoming de-sensitised to it - they do a job that few of us could manage. I'm writing this after a difficult day, experiencing the events as they have occurred, it helps me to relate back and I'm only too pleased to be able to do so with such a positive aspect..
"A shining beacon of NHS care"
