I was referred from WGH, Kendal, following urine retention and catheterisation, to see a urologist. On the same day I arrived at RLI at 2pm. I was screened for admittance and examined by an assistant doctor at about 4pm. I told him that I was unprepared for admittance and he said that he could not give me any assurances until I had been seen by a consultant later that day. At 8pm I enquired how much longer I would have to wait. 2 minutes later a nurse said that a doctor had viewed my blood tests taken in Kendal; all was ok and I could go home and come back in a month to have the catheter removed.

At no time was I seen by a consultant. I had had no advice on how to deal with a catheter and what complications to expect (and there have been a number). I was not given any indication about treatment or investigation as to why this problem had occurred or as to how it might be prevented from recurrence. In total and in truth, a shocking lack of professionalism and duty of care. I am still in acute discomfort with the earliest appointment to see anyone a week away.
