"Birth of my daughter"

About: Southmead Hospital / Maternity care St Michael's Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Gave birth to my beautiful baby girl, at the end of 2011.

Southmead Hospital, gave me a good experience mostly. Went in and was 2 cm dilated, 27 minutes later she was born in her under the caul ( in sac). Was very quick, the midwife told me I had hours yet and did try and make me lie in that c position, but I stuck to my guns and had her on all four bottom in the air..lol.. so glad I did poop this time!

My only complaint is that I every one got to see the caul birth and I didn't, so I missed out on a rare birth, and didnt know what it was so the caul was thrown away ( I think).

The nurse made my daughter feel extra special by saying it was her 1st time ever seeing a birth like this, her enthusiasm rubbed off.

The after care was brilliant, I got food when I asked for it early in the morning. The only thing that annoyed me was when a nurse tried tried to take my baby from me late at night, when she thought I fell asleep. Scared the living day lights out of me.

The only other thing is, that I was told my son could see the birth, and it would have been a special one too, but when we arrived he wasn't allowed in so that meant, dad nearly missed the birth too having to drop him off. He was so disappointed!

All in all though it was considered a good experience.

Dear Me JoJo – thank you for taking the time and trouble to advise of your birth story at Southmead Maternity Unit. I am pleased the birth was a positive experience, and that staff assisted in your daughter being so very special to you. I have your feed back comments to the Maternity Unit so the staff and midwives can learn from your story and offer more choice to any other mothers in this situation.

Kind regards -
