"Women's health clinic"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

Anything else?

Visited outpatients today, need to come into hospital for minor day surgery. Was made to feel that I should not be asking questions. "Histology", came home and looked it up, shocked that it is not what the doctor told me it is! Doctor was not English and their command of the english language was not perfect but they should be able to explain what histology is. Doctor said I needed to be examined and when I found it too painful they were very abrupt with me as to why I had a problem with the examination, then told me that I was allowed to say I did not want to be examined, why could they not have given me the choice before putting me through being uncomfortable both physically and mentally. I know my own body and know that what is happening is not the norm, after all this is why my GP has referred me to a specialist. But to be told that you are not normal was quite upsetting. I came away feeling that I don't really want to have this procedure done here and that I need to find out what exactly they will be doing to me during the operation but am worried about asking questions, last 2 times that I have attended the women's health clinic I have come alone and both times don't feel happy with the way I was spoken to. I feel they need better people skills, the nurses are the same and lovely as usual and try to put you at your ease. I have to attend the QE for this procedure as no other one available when I booked online but next time I am going to ask my GP if I am able to go elsewhere because of how the last 2 doctors have made me feel and how I have been spoken to when I have attended my appointment alone.
