"The benefits of a local hospital"

About: Community physiotherapy / Dereham physiotherapy clinic

(as the patient),

Hello!

I'm 64years old and live in Dereham, Norfolk.

I have MS but have also had a brain tumour - all safely removed but left with short term memory problems.

We have a local hospital near to where I live in Dereham. In here live all kinds of fabulous people who look after my body and kiss away worries I may have in dealing with a long term condition.

They have a fab Continence Nurse, Yvonne, whom I saw at the beginning of the year; she didn't just concentrate on my wee and bowel problems - she mentioned that I didn't seem my usual bubbly self............and I wasn't.

I was having really fearful thoughts about my future and was in a lot of nerve pain. Yvonne listened to all I blurted out. She explained that constant pain can pull you down and make small doubts into big fears. She urged me to go and see my GP and I did. I now have some really good nerve pain relief and am less frazzled.

Also - today a Physio came from the same hospital to my home and gave me an MOT. She stayed for about an hour and a half and now I have tools put in place to help me walk better and a deeper understanding of why I have spasms at night. She also spoke to the OT there and I will have some bars replaced in my bathroom.

These wonderful Professionals all speak to each other and treat me as a whole person rather than a list of symptoms. I love them all.
