Anything else?
I had my gall bladder removed as a day-surgery patient in August. The consultation pre-surgery, the discussions with the anestetists and surgical team and the care I received from the day nursing staff were all excellent.
My surgery was late in the day and the staff thought it best for me to spend the night on the ward due to my low blood pressure. During the night my judgement was pretty impaired from the pain meds, and I decided to go walking to the toilets instead of calling for help. I passed out en route and landed on my back, hitting my head in the process.
In hindsight, I'm troubled by the fact that I made it down the ward in a very disoriented state without being seen by the nurses - and that the morning nursing staff said the night staff hadn't let them know that I had passed out or fallen.
All's well that ends well, and on the whole I am very pleased with the treatment and facilities at Gloucester Royal. The surgery team, anesthetists, admin staff and nusing day staff could not have been more patient, caring or accomodating. Maybe the night staff were just having a rought night!
