"Impossible to get a Hysterosalpingogram"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital

(as the patient),

Having waited 4 months for our first infertility clinic appointment at Jessops hospital, my partner and I were relieved to have a least put a foot on the ladder towards getting some help. At the appoinment, we were told we needed various tests (his much less traumatic than mine :-) and to arrange another appointment. The next available appointment was, however, 6 months later. So almost a year from our first visit to the GP, that appointment is this month. Unfortunately it has taken me 6 months to completely fail to get an appointment for one of the tests, an HSG (Hysterosalpingogram).

Every month for the last 6 months I've been told to call on the first day of my period, I've rung the radiology department only to be told the lists are full. I've spoken to the consultants secretary at Jessops, who agreed that it was very difficult to arrange an HSG, but she can't help. I've spoken to what seems like every one of the Radiology department staff, who tell me they will only do HSG's on Monday and Friday and can't add to the lists they have. I now don't have the time left to get a test before our appointment, and will have to wait another 5/6 months for another one...

It's now looking like our only option is to go private...as that clock is ticking away and I don't have time to wait another year before we start any sort of treatment.

It's a shame that the consideration, support and understanding that Jessops staff have shown us has been overshadowed completely by the Radiology department.
