"Poor treatment at Rotherham District General"

About: Rotherham Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I was sent by my GP to the Rotherham District General hospital with suspected appendicitis. Upon arriving at the admissions ward (B1) I was examined by a Dr who took blood samples and arranged for x-rays. The tests showed signs of infection. I was then examined by another two Drs before being transferred to Sitwell ward. Once on the ward I was seen by a registrar who said that I would be having a laparoscopy the next day to determine the problem. After much delay, I was eventually taken to theatre for the laparoscopy (3 days after when it was initially arranged) and the problem was found to be lesions on my colon, which were removed.

I feel very angry about the way I was treated prior to going into the theatre, especially with the dismissive tone of the consultants, who acted as though they didn’t believe me when I said that I had a pain in my abdomen.

We are sorry you felt your care was poor during your recent stay with us. It is important that patients have the best experience possible, and we are very sorry you didn't feel you received this. However without your specific details it is difficult to undertake a detailed investigation. If you would like to contact Jane Pearce, Matron for Surgery, on 01709 304596 she will be happy to discuss further.
