"Erpc at Rochdale day surgery"

About: Rochdale Infirmary / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Following a miscarriage I was referred from Oldham Royal on and told these procedures were done at Rochdale day surgery. Arrived as instructed at 8am and asked where my completed form was? Had to explain in full waiting room I didn't have one and why.

Sat down with my partner, then started panicking as signs everywhere saying drop off point only and relatives must leave. Ok if my procedure wasn't sensitive but I thought he would be with me. Lovely nurse came for me and I said goodbye to my partner, I burst into tears and she said due to my procedure he could come but not for anything else. I was so relieved.

We were taken into a single room off the main ward. I must stress that the staff were fantastic and are only following guidelines but we did feel like they were doing us a favour by allowing him there. He asked where the toilet was and he was told you shouldn't really be here so must stay in the room, but if you need to go then its over there. I was last on the list and there over 4 hours.

If the NHS is going to streamline services like this then the wards need to be geared up for things like this and it shouldn't be all hushed that a patient has a partner with them.

If my procedure was for anything else then I can appreciate partners aren't needed but having a ERPC following a miscarriage isn't something I'd want to go through alone.

I must reiterate the staff did make an exception and were absolutely fantastic but they shouldn't have to make this kind of decision.
